Stop using shampoo to clean your hair

I was watching something on the internet and then somewhere in the conversation the two people in this video brought up the subject of not using shampoo and still have clean hair.

That got my interested mainly because I don’t like all the stuff they put in shampoo. So after this video got my interested I did some searching around and found that there are more people that stoped using shampoo and still have clean hair.

This made me want to try this so on June 25 I washed my hair for the last time with shampoo. Let me tell you before I started this experiment I had a fair amount of dandruff and used special shampoo for that.

I read before that after a couple of days you can get the feeling of itching so I was prepared.

So now after stoping shampoo I just washed my hair with water while under the shower. After like 10 days my head became a little bit itchy but not to annoying but after a day of two that was completely gone.

And till now (I write this on August 4) I did not use any shampoo any more. My hair looks great and seem to look good for longer times without water. And one other thing that is pretty interesting my dandruff is gone.

My head seem to be in better shape and even feels nicer. My hair feels nice and not greasy at all.

This experiment really worked out for me and this way I save my head and skin by no longer dumping chemicals on my head and eventually in our environment.

I know this is not for everyone but I would recommend you to give it a try but if you do go for it for a month so that you give your head and hair the time to adjust.

Cellphones Bad?

Let me start with a question:

If a cellphone is able to make popcorn, is that good or bad?

Now watch this movie:

I guess what happens to the corn is basically what happens to your brain, but you only use one cellphone at a time, I hope.

But this makes you wonder how much harm the energy from wireless signals could do.

Everybody has heard the stories about how cellphones could cause brain damage, but supposedly there is no proof of it. Is the proof being hidden from us? Decades ago, the dangers of smoking were hushed up by the big tobacco companies.

I would say, use your cellphone and other wireless devices judiciously.

While browsing at the local public library I spotted this book. As we all know by now, borrowing books is much better for the planet than buying books, so I checked out this one and took it home, where it joined a tall stack of books I meant to read.

One day soon after, I was sick of all the other books, so I picked up 100 Ways to Save the World. It was so easy and fun to read. The 100 tips are simple and short, so you can read one tip at a time and blend it into your daily routine.

100 Ways to Save the World is a handy little resource for anyone who would like to make a difference in the world and is looking for a surefire way to get started.

Get this book at your local library, or buy a copy of 100 Ways to Save the World if you really need to.

The world would be a better place if we didn’t need so much electricity. We’re all used to having electrical power whenever we want at our fingertips.

Take me, for instance. I’ve used an electric shaver for most of my life, which has no doubt wasted a lot of power.

But today I found a razor that you can charge by winding. A one-minute wind would generate enough power for a shave. That sounds pretty neat to me. Not only do you get a shave - you also get a bit of exercise working to power up your razor.

And this razor is not just a wind-up one. You can also plug it into a power socket or a 12-volt car socket, but who wants to do that when winding is much more fun? It’s also the perfect razor when you go camping in places with no electrical hook-up.

Go have a look at the Freedom Dynamo Electric Shaver.

If you visit this site, you probably stopped buying bottled water a long, long time ago.

But if you didn’t, or if you need to convince your friends, then have a look at this video:

Remember, stop drinking bottled water or your own water out of plastic bottles!

I know it is winter and we don’t like being in the cold, but working out outside is so much better for the environment. Just think of the power you’ll save by not using exercise equipment, TVs, and indoor lighting.

I can tell you firsthand that going for a run outside - even when it is cold - is so much better! Once you start doing it, running on the treadmill or track indoors will be much less appealing. Just give it a try. I promise that running on snow is not that difficult.

This is the 100th post in this series and, for now, the last tip. I will eventually start another series of tips, but in the meantime keep reviewing these to remind yourself of what you can do to save our planet.

You’re very welcome to leave me suggestions of other things we can do to save our planet, and I may include them in the next series of tips.

Thank you for reading!

Is a tea bag good for only one cup of tea?

No, it’s not. Often, you can easily get 3 or 4 cups out of one tea bag, or make a big pot of tea from one little bag. So give it a try and see how much you can save on tea.

Of course, the little paper label and pouch should go in the paper recycling.

Why keep getting paper planners?

An electronic one is nicer and uses less paper. Okay, it uses power, but I believe that the amount used is still better than cutting down a tree. And of course, many of us already have gadgets like an iPod Touch or a cell phone, which are great for keeping track of your appointments.

Give it a try and save some trees.

If you take the stairs instead of the elevator, you’ll save a lot of energy and sneak in some exercise too.

Think about it! If climbing up is too difficult for you right now, then maybe start with taking the stairs down. Soon you’ll find yourself enjoying the stairs more than the elevator.

Some of us still like to exercise on those fancy gym machines that come with a personal TV. Some of us may even have such a machine in our home.

You can save a decent amount of electricity by turning off the little TV after you’re done. If you’d rather listen to music on your iPod or MP3 player, you can keep the TV turned off while you’re using the exercise machine. There’s no sense in leaving the TV on if no one’s going to use the machine after you.
