Air-drying your clothes is much better for the planet, because of course you don’t need electricity. It’s also much better for your clothes. They won’t wear out so much and will last you much longer.
I live in a tiny apartment and I still air-dry most of my laundry. I got a nice drying rack at IKEA, not too big, and it folds to a small flat size for storage. Best of all, my rack fits in the bathtub, so it’s not in the way when I’m drying my clothes.

If you’re going for a holiday and the weather permits, consider doing some camping. Camping is a relaxing way to spend your time, and you can often find really nice campgrounds located very close to nature.
By not staying in a hotel, you’ll help the enviroment in so many ways. You won’t use up all that electricity and all those towels, cutting down on resource consumption. With camping, you’ll get the bonus of a great experience and many dollars saved, because campgrounds are of course a lot cheaper than a hotel.

If something you bought is not what you want, or if you bought too much of something, then please return it to the store. Did you know that, in most cases, they will take things back even if you’ve lost your receipt?
By returning things that would otherwise end up collecting dust in a corner and eventually in the garbage, you’ll “find” yourself some extra money. Companies can manufacture less of their products, and less of these barely used items will end up in the landfills.
So please start returning things you don’t need or want, especially after the holidays!

Okay, this is unexpected, isn’t it?
Yes, you read it right: Do not start trying to be greener than the greenest people on this planet. By that I mean, don’t start replacing things with greener alternatives when they don’t yet need replacing, because then you’ll be sending more and more waste to the landfills, which won’t help the planet at all.
Get the greener products when you need to replace things, but not before that!
It will help both your wallet and the environment.

Pack your lunch tomorrow. By doing so you’ll create less waste, because you can use a reusable container or bag.
You’ll also put more in the piggy bank, because a homemade lunch will be a lot cheaper than buying lunch or eating out.
It’s a win-win situation!

Dishwashers are less of a burden on the environment than we think. They are actually better for our planet than doing the dishes yourself!
BUT, stop pre-rinsing your dishes. Today’s dishwashers are more than capable of making your dirty dishes squeaky clean, so don’t rinse your dishes before putting them in. That is like doing the dishes twice, which is not very good for our planet or your wallet, and not very smart for getting through your chores.

We are all trying to use less and less of the Earth’s resources, but it can be hard when you do not know how much power you really use for a electrical device. For this reason, there are Kill-A-Watt devices that you can plug in between the power socket and the device power cord, and they will tell you how many dollars you are spending on electricity.
This version - the Kill-A-Watt EZ tell - can even forecast your device’s power usage over a week, a month, or a year, so that you know which are the big electricity gulpers in your home.
Check out the details of the Kill-A-Watt EZ or the simpler version, the Kill-A-Watt, and see how easy it is to find out how much power you waste.

Okay, gas is cheaper these days, but that is not an excuse to use more of it. So take 30 minutes to clean out your trunk and get out all the stuff you don’t really need to carry around. By removing even the smallest unnecessary weight, you will improve the mileage of your car. It’s a great way to save not only on gas but also on the wear and tear of parts like your tires.

We all enjoy traveling to places and seeing more of the world, but do you realize that you miss half of it when you drive or take the bus? When you visit a nice new city, go for a walk. By taking a “walking tour” of a new place, you will see so much more. It is much less stressful (you don’t have to worry about finding parking or missing the bus), and you’re likely to find things that are not in the travel brochures. It’s the best way to make cool and unique discoveries.

Winter is around the corner (or already here, as some might say). We’ve all noticed the much colder weather and the air drafts bringing the cold into our homes. It’s very simple and cheap to get a draft strip. Anybody can install these strips on their windows and doors. The draft strips will keep you from feeling cold and your home will need less energy to heat up.
