I wonder, do I really need to wash every dish as soon as I use it? I don’t think so. Most times I use the same glass for the whole day. Why make more glasses dirty?
By not being so fussy about my dishes, I save a lot of water and dishwashing soap. Think about this tip the next time you reach for a new glass from your cupboard.

Keep an eye on your medicine cabinet. When your medication has gone over the date, please return it to your pharmacist. This is the right way to dispose of expired medication.
I know many people just dump old medication in the toilet. If you do this, it will end up in our water supply and eventually you’ll be drinking it. You don’t want to throw it in the garbage, either. First, because someone could fish it out and that could have bad consequences. Second, if your old medication ends up in a garbage dump, it can eventually end up in our water supply - again.

We all do it: We keep our bills in binders, our bank statements, all other kinds of paperwork. But do you know how long we have to keep it?
A receipt for a product you bought can be thrown out when the warranty expires. It’s the same with bills -you can get rid of them after a while, six months or a year.
Do that, and of course recycle the paper. This way we can be ahead with creating new paper from the old stuff we don’t need anymore. You’ll have less clutter and help the trees stay in our forests.

If you make a list before you go shopping, you’ll notice that you’ll buy fewer of the things you don’t need. By practicing this simple habit, you cut down on your spending, of course, but you also help save resources that would have gone to waste. If each of us were to purchase one less (unnecessary) item a week, that translates to a lot fewer garbage trucks full of just packaging.

Why do people like to drink out of disposable cups when they’re at work?
You don’t use them at home, so why would you use them at work? Maybe it would be nice to give all your co-workers their very own mug, so that your workplace can start cutting down on garbage and wasted resources. You can get nice mugs from places like dollar stores, so it doesn’t have to cost much.
You might even convince your boss to get them for everyone.

Winter brings cold and cold means “brrrrrr…”.
The same is true for your car, so when the temperature drops below -15 degrees Celsius, make sure you plug in your car’s block heater to keep the engine warm. And do not plug it in all night - it just needs to be plugged in for 2 or 3 hours before you start driving. You’ll put less wear on your engine and reduce your car’s emissions, making the air a little bit cleaner.

Happy Christmas!
Winter is here, and that means cleaning the snow off your walkways.
Did you know that using salt on your walkways is not very good for your plants or their soil?
Salt mining could be reduced if we didn’t require so much salt, and that could reap benefits for the environment.
Most times you will not need salt, but you’ll need to act early. If you clean off the snow before people get a chance to walk on it, you will be fine and the snow will come off easily.
Try it this winter and see how much less salt you’ll use.

Okay, there is a lot of stigma around re-gifting, but it is a lot better than throwing out a gift and buying a new one. It can be really great when the re-gifted present is perfect for the lucky recipient. Now that useless (to you) item becomes someone else’s treasure.
Re-gifting is the perfect way to recycle and it saves you money, too. Make sure the person you re-gift to is not the original gifter or somebody they know, because then it becomes awkward.

When you go through a drive-thru or get takeout, it’s often served to you in a nice paper bag.
These bags are ideal for holding the garbage that you collect in your car everyday. A dirty napkin, a piece of gum…you name it, it can go in the bag.
If you don’t like my idea, then at least put the paper bag in the paper recycling bin!

“Drive-thru” parking? That’s driving through a parking spot to the one right in front, so that your car is facing forward and later you can quickly and easily pull out of your spot to get out. This little trick - if parking space permits - will save you lots of gas. First of all, backing up a cold vehicle costs more energy than simply driving forward. You will also stop-and-start one less time, also reducing excess fuel consumption. Your wallet and the air you breathe will both be better off.
