Those of us who would like to make our world a healthier place to inhabit are always on the lookout for more ways to health-ify the planet.

I came across a little device that could help us get some of our electronics “off the grid”.

The Freeloader Portable Solar Charger will supply you with power whenever you need it. This solar charger can charge its built-in battery from exposure to sunlight. If sunlight happens to be scarce, then it can be charged through the USB port, but only as a last resort.

When fully charged, the Freeloader Solar Charger can keep your iPod running for 18 hours or your mobile phone for 44 hours. This handy little gadget is proof that it’s remarkably easy to harness energy from the sun.

The Freeloader Portable Solar Charger also comes with all kinds of adapters to let you connect all your electronic devices, from MP3 players to cell phones, from your digital camera to your Nintendo DS.

You can view a complete list of devices that are supported by the Freeloader. See for yourself how cool it really is and what it can do for you, for under $50.

Check out the Freeloader at ThinkGeek and start saving our planet today.

The big airlines of this world did not really keep up with time. They still use radar systems to plot there course and that while even the kids on the playground have GPS in their Cell Phones.

What would happen if airlines would change to to a GPS based system?

An Associated Press analysis of federal and industry data found that if the new system were already in place, airlines could have saved more than $5 billion in fuel this year alone. (only based on US airlines).

Oh man that means we could have saved 5 billion dollars worth of fuel and what would that have done to our planet. 5 Billion dollars could save you a lot of green house gasses. And it could be even enough to maybe make your fuel bill a couple of cents lower every time you go to the pump.

Why or why are airlines stupid enough to remove the Video entertainment system from their planes to save fuel while a simple GPS solution would have saved them a bundle.

Taxi’s waiting

Yesterday I was visiting the Airport and there was of course a whole line of cabs waiting for customers.  I noticed that all those cars where idling and at that time point there was not to much happening at the airport so i guess they all needed to idle at least 5 minutes before they would get a customer (i think even longer).

And that fact made me wonder. How much bad fumes would there be ending up in the atmosphere because of all the taxi’s waiting for customers?

Isn’t it simple to just turn you engine off? it doesn’t only help our air but it also helps you getting a lower gas bill and with the oil prices going out of hand i would try to save where ever i could specially if i was relying on my car.

Walking or Driving

You wonder how much we would change the world if we would take a walk instead of driving to some short by destinations.

For instance it is not really that hard to walk to the grocery store that is like 5 minutes walk away. First off all you don’t have the hassle to find parking then you don’t use the pricey gasoline and 3e you get a free workout to.

Then there are more extreme ways of doing it. Like if you live like 5km from work you could just walk there and back. Again you save on parking and Gas and your get a workout twice (when you walk back to) and you will clear up your mind and get to work all fresh.

I guess it is worth a try although i normally walk to the grocery store and I work from home :)

update:

Didn’t I forget something important here.

If you walk the bad fumes fill also be less so the air will become cleaner and the global warming less.

Flying

Flying these days doesn’t cost as much as it use to. Specially if you look at low cost airlines in Europe where flying often is cheaper the taking the train. These price reductions of course also make it that more and more people fly for more and more occasions. And I guess we all know what that does to our environment.

Where does the air pollution that planes make end up? and where does all the left over fuel that planes dump when flying end up? maybe your vegetable patch???

A well we all know that it is difficult to stop us for flying but at least think about it before you book your ticket.
